Frequently Asked Questions
What is Smart Wi-Fi+ and how is it different than Smart Wi-Fi?
AccessSmart Wi-Fi+ is an adaptive mesh Wi-Fi system that optimizes your Wi-Fi based on your usage to deliver the best speed and coverage. It works by learning about your home environment and the devices you use to provide you with a better browsing experience. You’ll enjoy an even better experience with the HomePass app's enhanced parental controls, smart home protection, and advanced cyber security.
What's the difference between Smart Wi-Fi+, Wi-Fi routers, extenders and mesh?
Routers have limited coverage; extenders can often improve the coverage, but they degrade the internet speed; mesh Wi-Fi systems provide relatively higher coverage without degrading speed.
AccessSmart Wi-Fi+ takes mesh Wi-Fi to the next level, using Plume's adaptive technology to optimize your Wi-Fi based on your usage. This delivers the best speed and coverage. Since every home is different, the system learns about your home environment, device types and data requirements to provide each device the right speed and coverage, allowing you to use more devices efficiently at the same time. Additionally, included network management and security features filter out suspicious content, monitor your devices and can even block ad content from websites, improving your browsing experience.
Why should I subscribe to Smart Wi-Fi+ instead of purchasing a mesh system?
Mesh is a static system that promises home-wide Wi-Fi coverage through a series of extenders. It’s far from perfect, because as demands on the system grow, the response remains the same, increasing the risk of slowdowns and drop-offs. AccessSmart Wi-Fi+ provides you the most consistent Wi-Fi connection enabled by adaptive technology from one of the world’s leading Wi-Fi companies, Plume. You also get intuitive management of people and device access, state-of-the-art cyber security and protection, and Wi-Fi motion sensing. You will also have peace of mind with professional installation and 24/7 technical support for as long as you subscribe to the service.

I’m working from home, will switching to Smart Wi-Fi+ impact my VPN?
In most cases, there's no impact! If you use a VPN for work or school, AccessSmart Wi-Fi+ allows any devices running a VPN client to connect through a VPN service.
Certain commercial VPN services are blocked by some of the app features, such as Online Protection and Content Access. This is because when a VPN is in use, your device's traffic is encapsulated and will no longer be protected by the Guard or Content Access features. To use these VPN services, you'll have to manually unblock the VPN’s domain or IP address on the app. We recommend doing this only if you trust the VPN service in question.
How many pods do I need?
The number of pods you'll need will vary based on several factors, such as the layout and construction of your home, as well as how many devices you plan on using.
How many devices can I connect to a pod?
AccessSmart Wi-Fi+ is designed to spread out device connections throughout the home. While it is not a hard limit, we recommend a maximum of 45 connected devices per pod radio.
Can I plug a pod into a surge protector or extension cord?
Yes, you can plug a pod into a power strip, adapter, extension cord or surge protector.
Can I plug a pod outdoors?
Keep your pods inside and away from wind, rain or moisture damage. If you want to improve Wi-Fi coverage in an outdoor space, we recommend that you place a pod just inside your door when you need more outside coverage for a get together.
Can I plug a pod in a bathroom?
The presence of water and moisture can damage the pods, so we recommend skipping the bathroom. In addition, bathrooms are masses of Wi-Fi deflectors because of the pipes and mirrors that lie in or on their walls.
